JUROR'S STATEMENT I decided to go with the maximum number of honorable mentions because I thought several were fine work, but I couldn't get enough of them into the prize money. In fact, there were a number of very fine entries I liked that I had to eliminate from the honorable mentions in order to narrow down the field. I would have enjoyed seeing them in person to appreciate the texture, technique, and all the paint manipulation each artist used. And it would have helped to make my choices, as well. Choosing the top three was a difficult balancing act of evaluating so many aspects of painting: composition, content, skill, paint texture, color, contrast, values, drawing, and on and on. One work might be very strong in several areas, and another strong in other ways. There were around a dozen paintings that presented a real challenge in selecting the prize winners and honorable mentions. You have a number of excellent artists represented in your show. I commend you all for putting together this fine show with a lot of variety and appeal, and for giving acrylic artists a higher profile venue for displaying their work. I know a lot of effort goes into an effort like this. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your show. Mark Weber

PUBLICATIONS
Brushwork Essentials
The following summary is taken from Mark's website: "A beautiful art book and an intriguing coffee table book, this excellent instructional book was actually written to teach. Mark makes mastering basic brushwork easy, with step-by-step instructions and big detailed artwork that allows you to see each brushstroke up close – just as it appears on the canvas. "You'll learn how to clean and shape your brushes for maximum control, pick up paint for specific types of effects and manipulate your strokes to get just the results you want – when and where you want them! "Because Mark uses only his own paintings as examples – 52 of them in various stages of completion – anyone who enjoys his work will want a copy of Brushwork Essentials." Mark has also contributed art for a variety of publications
